You've found the dog's owner - what to do next

Picture
You've returned the dog you found to their owner - great job!  You've made someone's family whole again.

Please promptly update your Pet FBI listing here so our volunteers can focus on dogs who are still missing.  Every pet deserves as much attention as possible.  We love to hear happy endings!  Please let us know how you were able to find the dog's owner. Your story will be featured in our reunion post on Facebook, which provides much-needed hope to owners of lost dogs and helps illustrate which methods are successful. Your response may help another lost dog get back home to their family!

If you’re still in touch with the dog’s owner, encourage them to get an ID tag with the owner's first and last name, address, and phone number—along with a microchip—if they don’t already have them.  It makes a perfect “welcome home” gift and could save the dog’s life if they ever get loose again.

If the dog had a "dead-end" microchip (the chip was never registered or the phone number was no longer working), please instruct them to contact the microchip company right away, before they forget, to update their registration.  A microchip is only as good as the information they provide.  If they have questions about how to do this, they can text us at (850) 792-4290.  We'd be happy to help!  (Please note this number is for texts only.)

Next:
  • Update social media posts.  We will update your post on the Lost Dogs Florida Facebook page once we receive the updated notice from Pet FBI.
  • Remove flyers and signs.
  • Notify the shelter.

Thank you for taking time to help this dog get back to their family!
